Well as the rest of the world celebrates wonderful fall weather, I’m still over here on this tropical island sitting in a pile of new sweaters wishing it was somewhat cold. What fun is new fall clothes, when it is still 80 degrees outside?
On the bright side, I can still walk to beach in my swimsuit and read a book in the sunshine. Speaking of reading (my favorite hobby), so many great books have been published this year. I’ve tried starting a book club but Dobby (my dog) only wants to read books about how to chase birds. So I thought I’d share a few of my recent reads and why I recommend them.
Books are magical. I can literally get lost in one for hours until I resurface and remember that I have clothes to fold and dirty dishes are calling my name. Twice a week my husband and I have reading nights. Instead of watching TV, sitting on our phones, or going out we spend time sharing our love for reading. We get into cozy clothes, grab a bottle of wine, and just read. It’s great way to connect! I encourage anyone this week to pick up that book you have been putting aside and dive in…..and if you don’t yet have a book, just check out my selections below!
Book #1 || I am Malala
This book is so encouraging and inspiring. This girl embodies so much courage and strength especially for one so young. It reminds me of the scripture: 1 Timothy 4:12. Also, a great reminder of the plights that others in different countries have to endure.
Book #2 || See Me
So it’s written by Nicholas Sparks. Need I say more? That is reason enough for me to pick up a book. However, readers beware, grab a box of tissues. Your going to need it. He will make you dissolve in a puddle of tears and somehow still enjoy the book.
Book #3 || Go Set a Watchman
This was a must read for me, since I loved “To Kill A Mockingbird” as a child. I really enjoyed this book because it was raw and genuine. I unlike others believe the characters did not change (this was supposed to be the sequel), but rather you got a better understanding of their true characters. I think if you have a book club or close group of friends, this book is a great one for discussion.
Book #4 || For The Love: Fighting for Grace
This book arrived at my door in perfect timing. Jen (the author), is witty, humorous, and relatable. I think she captures lightheartedness and the humor that Christians need to model in approaching a life gracefully.
Book #5 || All the Light We Cannot See
Lately I have been obsessed with historical novels. Normally, I only read them on occasion but this one caught my eye. There is a thrill aspect and a hidden treasure. Whenever a story moves me with the characters and takes an overdone topic (World War II) and makes it new and exciting again, I’m all for it.
